Student Pictures

What a delight this week to see my student Louise Lemon and the beautiful quilt she made from our class last year on L'amoutr est Trouve. She added a wonderful corded scalloped border to her quilt with great results. See from the pictures here how nice it looks.

My Addiction to Pink

Our new Rosie Outlook Quilt Pattern is a showstopper.

I love showing it off!  Of course I love pink in all it's shades.  Guess you could say I never met a pink I didn't like.  As a teenager living in San Francisco I always had a pink coat

Many years have gone by now and I don't have pink coats anymore.  I did have a beautiful pink wool suit that was my favorite until someone threw it into the wash and it became a really small .  So now I settle for a pink bedroom and pink quilts.

I love this design.  Making hexagons is addictive and I want to design several quilts with them.  So this is number one.  I hope you like it too.

Midway, UT, Zermatt Resort and Season's of Home.

After a trip up Provo Canyon past Sundance and Deer Creek Reservoir I took the road to Midway Utah and discovered a land I'd never seen before.  What fun to stop at Zermatt Resort and feel like you are in Switzerland or Germany and only be 35 miles from my home.  I especially loved the flowers.  It was so quaint

And better yet on the way home my friend Krisanne and I stopped in at a wonderful quilt store - Season's of Home.  They carried lines of fabric I rarely see in the other stores which was a treat and several new pattern designers.  I wished I had time to make several of the quilts on display.

Riley Blake Fabric Fest pictures

What a great time last week at the Riley Blake Fabric Fest in Las Vegas, NV.  There was eye candy everywhere you looked.  I can hardly wait until our own Quilt St. George Quilt Retreat on January 14-17, 2014.

I also had a booth at Fabric Fest last week and also I had quilts in the fashion show.  Altogether I was showing 13 quilts.  Here are some of the pictures.

And did I mention meeting Eleanor Burns and taking classes from her.  Good times.  The best was her tuesday evening show "El's Kitchen" which had everyone in stitches.

Eleanor Burns from Quilt in a Day is a quilting legend.

Red Riding Hood

I had to name the quilt Red Riding Hood because the fabric on the back is red with small white polka dots and it has a strip of "Red" herself prancing across the back of the quilt.  So Cute!

So here is the quilt.  Kathryn Carbine from Stitching Corner, Orem quilted so beautifully.  this is one of my favorite quilts.  Patterns are available on my website.

Hexie Video now on YouTube

Who doesn't have just 1 minute to find out how to make those cute hexagons we are seeing everywhere?

And they are positively addicting to make - here are one of the several bunches I have made waiting to find their way into a quilt pattern.  These hexagons are made from Moda's "Tapestry" line by Joanna Figueroa of Fig Tree & Co.  I think I have loved every line that Joanna has come out with.  It was fun to finally meet her at the Portland Spring Quilt Market this May 2013.  I wioll have about 40 of these hexies when I am done.  Hexies are my take along project and I have them neatly arranged in a fishing tackle box ( a new box not a crusty old one!).

This quilt has been on my to do list for so long

I'm going to take advantage and take this class.  I even got the pattern already!

Being taught by Susan Hyatt at Quilt St. George

My fondest memories are those of Sunday night dinners, and holidays spent at Grandma’s house.  Every first Sunday  of every month, after church, we’d pile into the Oldsmobile and head for grandma’s, where dinner was served on hot plates directly from the oven, and I was seated next to my grandmother, a proud, statuesque woman who evoked pride for her family in food and conversation.  On the ride home my sister and I would lie down in the back of the station wagon and watch the moon and the stars following us home . . . believing they were watching over us until our safe arrival back home. . . . That’s what this pattern brings to my heart.

L'Amour Est Trouve (Love is Found)

I'm Teaching at Quilt St. George In January 2014

Only 9 blocks makes the whole quilt.  The dresden flowers have a 3-d center to them that is so much fun to make.  The scalloped edge adds a delectable finish.  This is needle turn applique, but there is not much of it to do.  The finished quilt is 58" by 58" and the finished blocks are 18" by 18".

In class we will be making one sample block each to take home and fabric will be provided for that block at no charge.  If you choose you may bring your own fabrics to work on instead.

Started a new quilt yesterday

Looks like it will be done tomorrow and then it's off to the quilter.  Can't wait to show it to you when it is back.  Kathryn Carbine at The Stitching Corner always does an amazing job quilting my quilts.  This is from the Evening Blooms line by Riley Blake and Carina Gardiner.  She's one of my favorite fabric designers.  The yellow black and grey are wonderful together.  Everything she does is so romantic.  I'm already eyeing her new line which comes out this winter.

I'm getting back to my quilting.  My new website is up and we are taking registrations now.  It's our Quilt St. George Retreat in St. George, Utah

Sat Sampler At American Quilts

Amazing amounts of people (600) crowded into American Quilting in Orem, Utah all morning to hear about this years saturday sampler and pick up their patterns.  It's a mystery quilt of course and we only got the first installment of 12 today.  Amy McClellan has been doing this for a number of years now and has a large following of quilters.  Even though I design my own patterns thru Pink Hippo Quilts, I enjoy joining in the fun with other quilters.

Minnesota Quilters Mariner's Compass Exhibit 2013

Minnesota Quilters Mariner's Compass Exhibit 2013
Kaleidoscope Twist by Birgit Schuller
"In 2004 this quilt started out as my contribution for an exhibit with the theme "red".  this led to the somewhat ambitious idea of making a quilt that combined flying geese blocks in a NYB-style setting with kaleidoscopic hexagons that showed off that gorgeously beautiful red paisley fabric I had found in some online store.  All in all the making of this quilt was a process that stretched over several years.  And, yes, I felt some relief when I put the last hand stitches on the binding in Mid-2006!"

icandy 3.0 by Robbi Ecklow
This is 67 " by 67", finished in 2009.  Hand dyed fabrics, fused Applique, unguided free mtion quilted, designed using adobe illustrator.choosing the colrsa s she went, Robbi says it's "my favorite quilt so far".

Minnesota Quilters Mariner's Compass Exhibit 2013
Bristol Stars by Judy Mathieson
"The basic format was inspired by a Victorian marble floor in the Bristol Cathedral in England.  I have added changing colors, flying geese that circle the center, expanding checerboards, corner stars as well as elaborate stars that fill the 20 outer circles.  The center star was inspired by designs from Costa Rican cartwheels."
Hand and machine quilted by the maker.
